Botswana netball players to play in Singapore league

Xinhua, January 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Four Botswana netball players are scheduled to depart the country on Sunday to play in the country's super league clubs, the Botswana Netball Association (BONA) announced this week.

BONA spokesperson Ntebo Maplanka told the media that shooters Hilda Binang and Violet Oneile, mid court player Sarona Hans and defender Letang Mogotlhwane will spend a month attached to clubs in the Singaporean league.

She said all the players are young, as Hans are 16 and Mogotlhwane 19.

The four players were identified by Singapore netball authorities during the Six Nations Cup tournament that was played in the Asian country towards the end of 2013. Maplanka said the players did well and impressed the hosts though initially the Singapore authorities were skeptical because of their young ages.

"They played well at the tournament and impressed the selectors, " she said.

She said the attachment will give the players an opportunity to train with the Singapore national team which is coached by the highly rated former New Zealand coach, Ruth Aitken. New Zealand is one of the world's netball powerhouses. Endite
