Botswana junior cricket team prepares for World Cup qualifiers

Xinhua, January 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Botswana's Under-19 boys cricket team has started preparations for the 50 overs World Cup qualifiers that are scheduled to be played in Tanzania in February.

Botswana will face Namibia, Uganda and Tanzania to qualify for the international tournament.

Head coach Obert Musiyamhanje told the local media on Friday that he was optimistic about the team's chances.

"We want to teach them how a batsman should approach a ball in different forms," he said.

Musiyamhanje said the team benefited from participating at the Mini World Cup and playing visiting Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) towards the end of 2013. He said most of the boys are part of the Botswana senior team and they also play in the domestic league.

The team has hard-hitting batsmen Rashaad Mosweu, Thatayaone Tshose and Mmoloki Mooketsi who are capped at senior level. Musiyamhanje said five players have been promoted into the Under 19 team from the Under 12 side, while three are now over age and have moved on.

The team will play a friendly match on January 31 against a Zimbabwe select side. Endite
