The Hengqin New Area, set up on Dec. 16, 2009, is located on Hengqin Island, the largest of the 146 islands and islets in Zhuhai.
By 2020, the proportion of the area’s tertiary industry of the total GDP is expected to exceed 75 percent, and the area will reach the status of major service-industry-based cities of developed countries.
