A nurse named Dou Heng was in the process of checking in at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport Terminal 3 with his pregnant wife at 6:20 a.m. on Chinese New Year's Eve, not long after he finished his shift for the day when he received words that he would be dispatched to Hubei with some other nurses.

Dou said to his wife: “I'm a respiratory nurse. It is my duty to help.” He got his ticket refunded and joined his medical team right away.

It is not easy to take blood samples while wearing the goggles and thick gloves that are required when doing this kind of work and even more difficult to perform arterial blood gas tests on people who have hyposarca.

A colleague of Dou’s named Bai Xiumei commented: “He is very professional. I ask him for help when I have problems with arterial blood gas tests. He is always able to perform tedious tasks without hesitation.”
