Japan's main opposition party on Thursday described Abe's push to amend the nation's pacifist constitution for the first time since the end of World War II as being "a serious infringement on the legislative process."

Following Abe making a televised address recently announcing his intention to amend a key pacifist clause of the nation's charter to legitimize the existence of the Self-Defense Forces by 2020, the main opposition Democratic Party has claimed Abe has intervened in the parliamentary process. YANGON -- A Chinese naval fleet comprising three warships -- Changchun, Jingzhou and Chaohu of Escort Task Group called at the Myanmar International Terminals Thilawa (MITT) in Yangon's Thanlyin township Thursday morning.

TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and a special envoy of South Korea's newly-elected President Moon Jae-in agreed in talks Thursday to resume the shuttle diplomacy between the leaders of both countries.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand opened an innovation institute in China's eastern city of Hangzhou, a key step towards developing stronger research links with Chinese researchers, Science and Innovation Minister Paul Goldsmith said on the spot on Thursday, according to a New Zealand government release.

NEW DELHI -- Indian government has accorded sanction to build 10 nuclear reactors in the country to boost power generation, officials said Thursday.
