Polish, Latvian leaders declare joint view on security

Polish President Andrzej Duda and visiting Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis declared close cooperation and joint view regarding security issues, following their meeting in Warsaw on Monday.

During a joint press conference, Duda informed that the talks concerned bilateral relations, the upcoming NATO Summit in Brussels and relations with Russia.

The two presidents also agreed that implementation of resolutions taken during NATO Summit in Warsaw was priority for the Baltic States.

Duda informed that they both agreed on an attitude towards the EU problems, including Brexit, which, according to the presidents, should have possibly mild and smooth course and provide good relations between the EU and the UK.

The Intermarium initiative was also among the topics raised. While expressing gratitude to his Latvian counterpart for his will to take part in the meeting on this matter, Duda emphasized it was an European initiative aimed at cohesion and development equalization within the EU.

Another initiative discussed was the Via Baltica project (connection between Baltic states and southern Europe) and power connections between the two countries.

"Our conversations confirm that our countries share a view on the current global and regional challenges such as regional cooperation and security politics," said Latvian President Vejonis, adding that Latvia and Poland closely cooperate for strengthening security in the Baltic Sea region. Endit
