MOSUL, Iraq -- Iraqi forces battling Islamic State (IS) militants on Thursday push further to besiege Mosul's old city center a week after launching a new push that initiated a new front in the northwestern edge of IS stronghold in the western side of Mosul, the Iraqi military said.

The elite forces of the federal police, known as Rapid Response, backed by armored vehicles initiated a new progress in Iqtisadiyn neighborhood amid fierce clashes with IS militants, leaving many extremist militants killed and destroying 17 of their vehicles, including five booby-trapped vehicles, Lt. Gen. Raid Shakir Jawdat, the commander of the federal police forces, said in a statement. (Iraq-IS-Mosul)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order aimed at strengthening cybersecurity of federal networks and critical infrastructure.

KHARTOUM -- Sudan's Prime Minister Hassan Saleh on Thursday announced a new government, with economic ministers being replaced.

Mohamed Othman Rukabi, a former army lieutenant general, was appointed as finance minister, Saleh said. Mubarak Fadel al-Mahdi was appointed as minister of investment, while Abdulrahman Othman Abdulrahman was appointed as oil minister. (Sudan-Government)
