Xinhua, May 10, 2017 Adjust font size:

The death toll from a fireworks explosion in central Mexico on Monday night has climbed to 14 with 22 more injured, the state government of Puebla announced Tuesday.

In a statement on Twitter, the regional government said the explosion went off at 9:30 p.m. in a fireworks warehouse, ahead of a village festival on May 15.

According to early reports from rescue teams, the explosion was sparked by a lit firework outside the house.

Puebla's interior secretary said the explosion caused the building to collapse, killing a total of 14 people.

In December, a massive explosion at a fireworks market in Mexico City killed 35 people and injured many more. Enditem
