Ghana committed to fight against terrorism

Xinhua, May 9, 2017 Adjust font size:

Ghana stands firmly with all civilized nations in the fight against terrorism as an instrument of political action, a senior official said here on Tuesday.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, said Ghana also commits itself to doing everything within its means to support regional, continental and global efforts to defeat the scourge.

"It is in this spirit that Ghana deployed a contingent of 208 officers and men as part of the ECOWAS Mission to The Gambia to support ECOWAS mediation efforts with a view to safeguarding democracy and ensuring a peaceful transition in that country," she told heads of African diplomatic missions during a meeting in Accra.

The meeting was to share thoughts on strengthening and advancing relations with respective countries, and as a group.

Botchwey said the foreign policy of the new government will be one of the principal agents of Ghana's socio-economic resurgence, with emphasis on the search for economic opportunities with the view to opening markets for Ghanaian goods, while attracting foreign investments in the economy.

She said the ministry intends to review existing Permanent Joint Commissions for Cooperation, which are effective frameworks for promoting greater bilateral cooperation between Ghana and other countries as well as reinforcing regional integration, to ensure their full implementation for mutual benefit.
