JSE rallies on Tuesday

Shares on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) rallied on Tuesday, with the all share reaching over 54,000 points, the best performance in 11 months.

The JSE all share index closed 0.89 percent up to 54,172.76 points. Banks and financials gained 0.47 percent and 0.42 percent respectively. The blue-chip top 40 index, which includes all the big capitalization shares on the JSE, traded 1.03 percent higher at 47,561.08 points.

The big dual-listed commodity companies also traded higher, with Glencore regaining 2.56 percent to R51.24, BHP Billiton recovering 2.46 percent to R202.77 and Anglo American recouping 2.18 percent to R180.87. Richemont rose 0.49 percent to a new 52-week high of R114.8.

Impala Platinum added 1.78 percent to R41.27 but AngloGold Ashanti lost 3.91 percent to R141.92.

Among industrials, British American Tobacco was up 0.54 percent to R936 and Naspers rose 3.13 percent to R2, 689.7.

TFG shed 2.46 percent to R149.23 and Truworth dropped 2.3 percent to R78.7. Endit
