Iran win Asian U23 volleyball championship

Iran won the title of Asian Men's U23 Volleyball Championship on Tuesday by defeating Japan in three straight sets.

The Iranian squad won the title for the second time in a row by 27-25, 26-24, 25-20 at the Rezazadeh Stadium in Iran's Ardabil city.

Juan Cichello's men defeated Pakistan 3-0, Malaysia 3-1, China 3-0, Kazakhstan 3-0 and Thailand 3-0 to enter the final.

"Iran will have an uphill task in the World Championship as the best teams will vie for the best results. It's possible to win trophy but will be very hard," Cichello was quoted as saying by Tehran Times daily on Tuesday.

On Monday, Iran booked a berth for the upcoming 2017 FIVB U23 Volleyball Men's World Championship by beating the Thai team.

In the third-place playoff, Chinese Taipei defeated Thailand 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22).

The competition brought a total of 11 teams in Ardabil, Iran from May 1 to 9. Endit
