Kenya's bourse dips on weak foreign trading

A drop in foreign investors' trading Tuesday saw Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) equity turnover decline 40 percent to 4.7 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 19.2 million shares.

The bourse had on Monday started the week on a high note, moving 34 million shares worth 7.8 million dollars.

Safaricom, Kenya's leading telecom, was the day's biggest mover as it traded 10.2 million shares at 0.20 dollars, a slight decline. Monday, the stock traded 23 million shares.

Kenya Commercial Bank came second with 5.6 million shares at unchanged price of 0.33 dollars, down from 6.4 million shares in the previous session.

Decline in prices of large stocks including Safaricom saw the NSE 20 share Index close Tuesday at 3,141.69, down from 3,154.38 while the All share Index (NASI) ended at 135.96 from 136.82 in the previous session.

Similarly, at the bond segment, trading declined significantly with securities worth 27 million dollars transacted, down from 36 million dollars in the previous session. Endit
