Chicago reports 200th homicide of the year

Xinhua, May 9, 2017 Adjust font size:

Chicago counted its 200th homicide for the year of 2017 as a young man was shot several times and died on the scene on the south side of Chicago Monday night.

Data collected by Chicago Tribune show that Chicago reached the 200-homicide grim milestone four days later than in 2016.

Data also show that though the number of homicides in Chicago in 2017 keeps the same pace as in 2016, the number of people shot and injured goes down by more than one hundred. 2016 is actually the most violent year in decades.

By Monday, the number of people shot in Chicago so far this year reached 1,114, as against 1,239 by the same date last year, Chicago Tribune data said. Enditem
