Xinhua, April 26, 2017 Adjust font size:

Bangladesh's anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday arrested a key member of a banned militant outfit in capital Dhaka.

An RAB spokesperson who did not like to be named said Mushfiq Martin Jeni is an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) expert of Neo-JMB (an offshoot of the banned militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh) blamed for the deadly attack on a Spanish cafe in Dhaka's diplomatic enclave Gulshan on July 1, 2016.

He said the arrest was made during a raid in his home in the capital on Wednesday morning.

According to the official, the militant who belonged to the "Tamim Chowdhury-Sarwar Jahan group" of Neo-JMB, was held with many improvised explosive and remote control devices.

Bangladeshi police have reportedly so far hunted down and killed at least 40 militants linked to the cafe attack. Endit
