Chinese stocks closed higher Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.2 percent at 3,140.85 points.

The smaller Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.39 percent higher at 10,204.84 points.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Wednesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index down 0.86 point, or 0.25 percent, to close at 343.89 points.

A total of 5,675 shares worth 19 million riel (4,724 U.S. dollars) were traded.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 10.99 points, or 0.50 percent, to settle at 2,207.84. Trading volume stood at 393 million shares worth 5.2 trillion won (4.6 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Wednesday, down 0.13 percent, compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 1.34 points to reach 1,036.53 points after closing.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday as investor sentiment was bolstered by an upward trend in overseas equities, with a weaker yen lifting exporters and buoying the broader market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 210.10 points, or 1.10 percent, from Tuesday to end the day at 19,289.43, marking its highest closing level since March 21.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed on a high note on Wednesday, in the wake of strong performance from the United States and a positive response to the election in France.

At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 40.20 points or 0.68 percent, sitting at 5,912.00 points, while the wider All Ordinaries index saw gains of 36.1 points or 0.6 percent at 5,936.80.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 710.04 points on Wednesday, up 2.46 points, or 0.35 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 142.344 million shares worth 3.488 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (156.12 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 170 stocks went up, 86 stocks fell down, while 44 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 88.55 points on Wednesday, up 0.7 points or 0.79 percent against the previous trading session.

Prices of 120 stocks went up; 72 stocks fell down, while 65 stocks remained unchanged.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 122.49 points, or 0.50 percent, to 24,578.43 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,515.23 and 24,637.85. Turnover totaled 78.62 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 10.10 billion U.S. dollars).

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Wednesday at 5,517 points, up 47.90 points, from Tuesday's finish.

Among a total of 328 issues traded, 201 registered gains and 85 incurred losses while 42 remained unchanged.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 9.83 points, or 0.31 percent, to close at 3,173.76.

A total of 2.67 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.35 billion Singapore dollars (969.21 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered decliners 260 to 204.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,768.92 up 3.12 points or 0.18 percent, and the Emas was at 12,610.37 up 32.16 points or 0.26 percent.

There were 507 gainers, 410 losers and 386 counters traded unchanged.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved up 5.22 points, or 0.33 percent, to close at 1,567.47 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Wednesday, with a historic record of over 30,000 points.
