Xinhua, April 24, 2017 Adjust font size:

Paraguay government on Monday ordered the deployment of military troops to the southeast city of Ciudad del Este after tens of millions of dollars were robbed and one police officer killed, according to reports from Paraguay.

"The Public Security Ministry and National Police are going to deploy a significant (number) of men and security personnel at key locations," Paraguay Interior Minister Lorenzo Lezcano said in an interview with a radio station in Asuncion, the capital, on Monday.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, a well-organized and well-armed group of 40 to 50 assailants broke into a private company and went away with 40 million U.S. dollars.

During the four-hour operation, the robbers exchanged fire with local police, killing one and wounding four.

Ciudad del Este, the second-largest city, is located 350 km east of the capital. Endit
