Tokyo stocks retreat in morning as Russia attack triggers risk off mood

Tokyo stocks retreated Tuesday morning as a suspected terrorist attack on a subway in Russia's St. Petersburg a day earlier saw investors in a risk adverse mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 76.54 points, or 0.40 percent, from Monday to 18,906.69.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 6.29 points, or 0.41 percent, to 1,510.74.

Marine transportation, iron and steel, and securities-linked stocks comprised the morning's most notable decliners. Endit
