Helsnki airport affected by ground service strike

Xinhua, March 4, 2017 Adjust font size:

The Helsinki-Vantaa airport was affected by a ground service labor action late on Friday.

The conflicting parties were the union of air transport workers and the employer organization of the service sector. The five-hour strike targeted service company Airpro, which is a subsidiary of the airport operator Finavia.

Airpro handles baggage and provides security screenings for passengers.

The strike ended at 7 p.m. local time (1700 GMT). Local media said major delays were averted as passengers had followed advice of the airport authority to check in earlier.

The union has announced a second strike for six hours starting from 3 a.m. local time (0100 GMT) next Monday morning. New negotiations under the state mediator were not planned until Tuesday. Endit
