Capital investment in Ukraine's agriculture hit record-high in 2016

Xinhua, March 4, 2017 Adjust font size:

Capital investment in Ukraine's agricultural sector reached a record high of 1.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2016, the state institute for agriculture studies said on Friday.

Compared with 2015, the investments have increased by more than half last year, the Kiev-based Institute of Agrarian Economics said in a statement.

Among the key reasons for the increased capital injections, it listed improved profitability of doing agribusiness in Ukraine, new exports opportunities and overall stabilization in the country due to the easing of the conflict in the eastern regions.

According to the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry, only 10 percent of the investment in the agricultural sector in 2016 came from abroad, while the rest were covered by the government and local private investors.

Last year, agriculture cemented its position as a strategic sector of the Ukrainian economy, generating 14 percent of the country's gross domestic product and 42.5 percent of the exports revenues. Endit
