At least 8 foreigners arrested in Nigeria's anti-terrorism operations

At least eight foreigners were arrested during anti-terrorism operations by government forces in Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, a commander of the Nigerian army said Wednesday.

Lucky Irabor, combatant commander of troops in the northeast region, told reporters in northern city of Maiduguri that eight foreigners comprising four Chadians, three Nigeriens and one Cameroonian were arrested.

Irabor said that some of the persons were suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

He said that troops also rescued 7, 898 persons in its anti-terrorism operations between Feb. 2 and March 1.

Nigeria's northeast region has been a stronghold of the extremist group Boko Haram. However, normalcy is returning in parts of the northeast region, where students have returned to school, burned houses are being rebuilt, and markets are being reconstructed. Endit
