Armenia and EU reach agreement on closer ties

Xinhua, March 1, 2017 Adjust font size:

Armenia has finalized its negotiations with the European Union on a new agreement related to closer ties with the bloc, the Armenian presidency office said on Tuesday.

According to a statement released by the office, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who has been on an official visit to Brussels since Monday, made the announcement following a meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk.

The new EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement covers a wide range of issues between the EU and Armenia, replacing the current cooperation agreement that was signed between the parties in 1996.

The new deal is expected to be officially signed in May, paving the way for a new level of relations between the European Union and Armenia. Endite
