Foreign companies help cut Macedonia's unemployment rate: official

Foreign companies operating in Macedonia have made a strong contribution to country's economy, especially in terms of employment, Stefan Peter, head of the Foreign Investors Council within the Economic Chamber of Macedonia told local media on Tuesday.

According to him, foreign companies in Macedonia have cut the country's unemployment rate by about 10 percent in the last decade.

On the other hand, he said in spite of the prolonged political crisis, the situation of the foreign companies operating in Macedonia was stable.

Foreign companies here employ over 50,000 people, Peter said.

Peter stressed that government subsidies for foreign investors had yielded results, especially in terms of opening over 50,000 jobs, adding cooperation with more than 5,000 domestic companies had boosted the creation of indirect jobs. Enditem
