Italy's industrial turnover, orders increase in December: ISTAT

Xinhua, February 25, 2017 Adjust font size:

Italian industrial turnover and orders posted a substantial growth in December 2016 over the previous month, the country's National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) said on Friday.

The seasonally-adjusted turnover rose by 2.6 percent, and new orders by 2.8 percent, over November.

The increase in turnover was much larger on the foreign markets (5.4 percent) compared to the domestic market (1.1 percent), while new orders grew by 6.8 percent on the domestic market and fell by 2.6 percent on non-domestic ones, ISTAT said.

Both indexes registered a 1.7-percent growth in the last quarter of 2016 compared to the previous three months.

On an annual basis, December saw industrial turnover grow by 9.4 percent, and new industrial orders decrease by 0.9 percent.

All Italian manufacturing sectors grew in terms of turnover in December 2016 compared to the same month in 2015, with the highest increase registered in the manufacture of electrical equipment (21.9 percent).

The only decline concerned the mining and quarrying sub-sector (7.9 percent), the institute stated.

The figures followed positive results recently posted by Italy's industrial production, which in December 2016 rose by 1.4 percent month-on-month, and by 6.6 percent on an annual basis. Endit
