After a goalless draw at the Parc des Princes against Toulouse in Ligue 1, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain head coach Unai Emery and his boys were regretful that they wasted a great chance to cut the gap from leaders Monaco here on Sunday.
Enjoying a sumptuous night as they crushed over Barcelona 4-0 in UEFA Champions League in the same stadium five days earlier, PSG would cut the deficit from Monaco to a single point if they had continued to beat Toulouse, but the game didn't run as they expected.
The best chance for PSG came early in the second half, but their top scorer Edison Cavani's shot hit the woodwork.
"We missed a good opportunity tonight. We're a little disappointed because we missed a chance to close the gap from Monaco," admitted Emery in an interview with the club's official website, turning his attention to next round's spotlight matchup against Marseille.
"Now we have to focus on the next match against Marseille, and we will keep working hard," he added.
PSG were still sitting second, three points adrift Monaco and ahead of Nice just on goal difference.
"We feel much regretful because we want to get closer within a point from Monaco. We will stay positive, start preparing for next Sunday's match and keep picking up points," said defender Serge Aurier.
PSG finished below-par in front of Toulouse's concrete defence, only to see their overwhelming advantage in shots (14-3) useless in changing the result.
"We tried everything to break them down, even hitting the post, and that all added up to a tough night. Tonight we really gave our everything to the match, but it just didn't go in our way," commented midfielder Adrien Rabiot. Endit
