SW China forest fire extinguished

A fire that had spread into China from Myanmar was put out Monday afternoon, according to local forest fire authorities.

The blaze crossed the border into Yunnan Province late Saturday afternoon, raging through forests in two townships in Lushui City and into a protected nature reserve.

Response work started Sunday and the flames were extinguished by about 2:20 p.m. Monday. A total of 460 fire fighters and 186 vehicle had to navigate the difficult terrain, as the blaze was about 3,100 meters above sea level.

No casualties were reported in the affected area. Endi
