Czech Republic advances to Fed Cup semifinals

The Czech Republic advanced to the semifinals of the Fed Cup tennis tournament after defeating Spain 3-2 in the first round on Sunday.

The Czech tennis team tied Spain 1-1 after Satruday's singles matches. In Sunday's action, Czech player Karolina Pliskova, currently 3rd in the WTA rankings, defeated the Spainish 7th-seed Garbine Muguruza 2-0. Barbora Strycova won the third decisive point for the Czech side against Spaniard Lara Arruabarrena with 2-0.

Meanwhile, the Czech Republic lost to Spain 1-2 in doubles.

With this victory, the Czech women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Fed Cup for the ninth time in a row, and will meet either the USA or Germany in the semifinals to be held on April 22-23. Endit
