The following are news in Kenyan media outlets on Saturday.

-- Opposition calls for extension of voter registration exercise noting that this would allow most of their supporters, who are still waiting to receive identity cards to enlist.

The registration has been ongoing for the last month but the electoral commission has failed to meet its target of a lower limit of four million and upper level of six million new voters. The agency has in the last three weeks registered only 2.2 million voters as apathy reigns. (Saturday Nation)

-- President Uhuru Kenyatta orders the formation of Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority to deal with traffic flow and end grid locks in the city. An estimated 10 million residents of Nairobi and its satellite towns would benefit from the work of the authority, whose first task would be to ensure city has dedicated bus lines and a commuter rail.
