The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Saturday.

-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu has warned his ministers that they risk becoming irrelevant to the people and have nothing to show for in 2021 when elections are due if they do not coordinate efforts to deliver development to all parts of the country.

Lungu, who is on a tour of development projects in the northern part of the country, urged the ministers to work together in order to take development to all parts, saying this will be the only way to win the confidence of people. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Former Zambian President Rupiah Banda says he was impressed with the robust infrastructure development program the government has embarked on.

Banda, who ruled Zambia from August 2008 to September 2011, said he was impressed that the government was making great efforts to continue investing in infrastructure, which he said was critical to national development. (Times of Zambia)

-- Doctors in Zambia have joined calls to advocate for the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes.

Dr Aaron Mujajati, the president of the Zambia Medical Association, said the government should seriously consider legalizing the cultivation of marijuana, adding that the high value crop could successfully be used for medicinal purposes. (Daily Nation) Endit
