The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Saturday.

-- National Education Health and Allied Workers Union is demanding that the Department of Social Development fill thousands of vacant social worker posts by April or face strike action.

The organisation's members joined several marches across the country on Friday, to protest against an unfair wage structure and general unfavorable working conditions. (Eyewitness News)

-- The Economic Freedom Fighters on Friday dismissed allegations that its members discharged teargas or pepper spray in the public gallery of the National Assembly while being forced out.

The EFF was removed from the National Assembly on Thursday, after opposition parties attempted to prevent President Jacob Zuma from delivering his tenth State of the Nation Address. (South African Broadcasting Corporation)

-- The Chamber of Mines, in a statement on Friday, said it's a "challenge" to assume that the parts of the mining industry that are not black-owned are South African "white-owned".

The Chamber was reacting to President Jacob Zuma's state of the nation address delivered on Thursday night in which he said the "skewed nature of ownership patterns" in the economy needs to be corrected. (Fin24) Endit
