Spain's car sales rose by 10.7 percent in January when compared with the same month a year earlier, according to data released on Wednesday by major organizations of the sector.

The Association of Car Manufacturers (ANFAC), the Federation of Association of Dealers of the Automotive sector (FACONAUTO) and the Association of Car Dealers (GANVAM) reported that purchases reached 84,515 in the first month of the year.

Purchases made by individuals rose by 8.7 percent to 45,183 unities, those made by companies increased by 13.6 percent to 26,248 while renting companies bought 13,084 cars, 12.3 percent more than a year earlier.

Director of Communication at ANFAC, Adolfo Randulfe, highlighted the fact that January sales had been positive because there were two working days more when compared with a year earlier. "There is a trend towards stagnation," he pointed out.

The president of FACONAUTO, Jaume Roure, has said that sales "has been below their expectations" while the president of GANVAM, Juan Antonio Sanchez Torres, also pointed out that "the growth was slowing down." Endit
