Turkish police officer attempts suicide in Istanbul clinic

Xinhua, February 1, 2017 Adjust font size:

A Turkish police officer under treatment in a psychiatric clinic in Istanbul attempted suicide on Wednesday, local media reported.

The officer locked himself in a room at the psychiatric clinic with Istanbul University in a suicide bid, the Haberturk daily said.

A police team was sent to the scene and negotiators managed to dissuade the officer from taking his own life, press reports said.

Zekayi Kutlubay, the chief physician with the clinic, rejected rumors about a person having taken several hostages in the facility. "Our police friend has not taken any hostage and he is alone in the room," he was quoted as saying by Haberturk.

According to press reports, the police officer has been receiving treatment since 2013. Endit
