Portugal issues yellow alert for cold front

Xinhua, January 19, 2017 Adjust font size:

Portugal has issued a yellow alert for a cold front, the third highest level in the four-tier alert system, the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere said on Wednesday.

The severe cold weather is expected to last until Saturday and is due to a cold and dry continental air mass.

Temperatures in the Portuguese capital will vary between 3 and 12 degrees Celsius while in other parts of the country like Vila Real, around 400 km north of Lisbon, temperatures will be from -3 to 5 degrees Celsius.

Under low temperatures, the authorities have to come up with an action plan to help the homeless, offering shelter and hot food. Endit
