Albanian teacher arrested for spreading IS propaganda

Xinhua, January 19, 2017 Adjust font size:

Albanian authorities arrested high school teacher Emine Alushi from Shkodra, northern Albania on Thursday, on suspicions that she was spreading propaganda for the Islamic State (IS), police said in a statement.

Alushi was secretly video recorded by students around two years ago, but her arrest came only Thursday after the video was broadcast by an investigative TV show here on Wednesday evening, the police statement cited.

In the video, which was recorded during a class, Alushi can be heard telling her students that IS was a good organization that aimed to protect the Syrian and Palestinian people, among others.

She also defended the former head of al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, calling him a good leader, local media reported.

She asked the students to disregard what was said in the media about IS, saying the organization was not as it was described on TV but rather a positive one.

The case has passed to the Prosecution Office for Serious Crimes in Tirana, police said. Endit
