Lithuania's Klaipeda port handles record cargo

Lithuania's major port Klaipeda handled a record high of cargo, at over 40 million tons in 2016, the port authority said Monday in a statement.

Klaipeda remained the leading seaport among the three Baltic states in terms of cargo volumes, the statement said.

In 2016, the seaport's cargo handling increased largely in the segments of oil products, containers, Ro-Ro cargo and liquefied natural gas.

In 2015, Klaipeda seaport's cargo handling amounted to 38.5 million tons.

Klaipeda is the northernmost ice-free port on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. It is the biggest Lithuanian transport hub. Endit
