Slight losses on Spanish Ibex-35 stock exchange

Xinhua, December 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Spanish Ibex-35 stock exchange suffered a slight loss of 0.19 percent on 2016's penultimate day of trading in what was generally a quiet session in Madrid.

The Ibex-35 opened on 9,344.90 points and closed on 9,327.10 after a day when small rises in the value of Spain's energy producing companies compensated by losses in the share value of the country's bank.

Thursday saw the Ibex-35 hovering around the 9,300 point mark during most of the day and the session would have ended with gains but for the performances of the banks, where Banco Sabadell lost 0.90 percent of value, BBVA 0.61 percent, Bankinter, 0.60 percent, Banco Popular, 0.54 percent and Banco Santander 0.54 percent.

The day's biggest earner was Indra, which saw a modest 1.41 percent increase in share prices. While Repsol and Gas Natural ended the day with gains of 0.60 and 0.57 percent respectively.

With just one day of trading left in 2016, the Ibex has lost 2.27 percent of its value over the year and with little major movements expected on Friday, it can be expected that the year will end with a slight loss on 2015's closing figure.

Meanwhile, the Risk Premium closed on 114.7 points while interest on the 10-year-bond stood at 1.32 percent. Endit
