Burundi legalizes ambulant trade

Burundian trade minister said on Thursday that ambulant trade is legal on the east African country's territory.
"The ambulant trade is as of today legal on the Burundian territory. This means that police agents and the local administration will no longer run after them to confiscate their goods," said Pelate Niyonkuru.
According to her, a period of six months has been given to traders to seek required documents that they will get from the administration in their respective districts where they operate their ambulant trade.
Niyonkuru indicated that they will be given an "identification card" for their ambulant trade.
"The turnover of ambulant traders shall not be over 2,000,000 Burundi francs (1,187 U.S. dollars). This is to avoid conflicts with other businesspersons with a higher turnover," said Niyonkuru.
She however indicated that there is a list of items that ambulant traders are not allowed to sell. They include drugs, medicinal plants, precious metals, medical equipment, distilled water and spiritual drinks. Endit
