1st LD: Syrian government, armed opposition reach truce agreement -- Putin

The Syrian government and the opposition have reached a cease-fire agreement, and both sides are ready to start peace talks, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

The nationwide cease-fire will come into force from midnight (2200 GMT), Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at a meeting with Putin.

The current situation allows Russia to reduce its military presence in the war-torn country, the minister added. Endi
