Singapore confirms deportation of two Indonesians supporting IS

Xinhua, December 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday confirmed that the authority has deported two Indonesians who allegedly had plans to travel to Syria via Singapore to join the Islamic State(IS).

Channel NewsAsia said the MHA spokesperson confirmed the deportation, saying Singapore authorities informed their Indonesian counterparts before doing that.

According to the Jakarta Post, the two Indonesians include a 40-year-old man living in Batam and a 40-year-old woman born in West Java.

The two Indonesians were questioned at HarbourFront Center's immigration checkpoint, which serves Batam-Singapore ferry routes. Both admitted they were planning to depart for Syria during the interrogation.

This is the second reported case of Indonesians planning to travel to Syria via Singapore. In February, four young Indonesians were deported from Singapore while allegedly en route to Syria to join IS. Endit
