2 wounded in mortar attack near Russian embassy in Damascus

Xinhua, December 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least two people were wounded on Thursday when mortar shells struck an area beside the Russian embassy in the capital Damascus, state news agency SANA reported.

The mortar shelling, fired by members of the Jaish al-Islam rebel group, from Damascus's eastern countryside, was the latest in a series of attacks targeting the Russian embassy in Damascus' Mazraa neighborhood, SANA said.

A day earlier, several mortar rounds targeted the embassy.

Russia has provided military support to Syria's government forces since September 2015, helping them recapture key territories it had lost in the early years of the conflict, the latest being Aleppo, where Syrian forces backed by Shiite militias succeeded in seizing the entire city. Endit
