Nairobi bourse turnover doubles on vibrant Safaricom buys

Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) turnover rose to 6.3 million U.S. dollars Tuesday on a volume of 32 million shares, up from 12.5 million worth 3.1 million dollars in previous session, mainly boosted by vibrant trading of Safaricom.
The leading telecom operator was the day's biggest mover, trading 22 million shares at between 0.18 dollars and 0.19 dollars, mainly foreign buys.
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) was the second top day's mover exchanging 3.7 million shares at 0.30 dollars. Overall, the banking sector had 5 million shares traded, representing 16 percent of the day's traded volume.
In the energy sector, some 3.2 million shares, which accounted for 10 percent of the day's traded volume, were moved, with Kenya Power trading 1.5 million shares at 0.08 dollars and Kengen 1.2 million shares at 0.06 dollars to emerge as the third and fourth top movers.
The commercial sector saw 742,000 shares traded with Uchumi Supermarkets moving 510,000 shares at 0.03 dollars while Kenya Airways traded 211,000 and closed at 0.06 dollars.
The NSE 20 Share Index's negative trend continued, falling 0.32 points to stand at 3,084.16, while the All Share Index (NASI) shed 0.05 points to settle at 131.01. The NSE 25 Share Index was down 5.13 points to stand at 3,448.95.
The bond market registered improved activity with securities worth 12 million dollars transacted, compared to 6.1 million dollars posted on Monday. Endit
