Xinhua, December 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Azerbaijan will purchase Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system, local media said citing the country's defense industry minister Yaver Jamalov as saying here on Saturday.

According to the minister, Azerbaijan's defence industry ministry and relevant structure of Israel have reached an agreement regarding the purchase of Iron Dome missile defense system.

The Iron Dome Weapon System works to detect, assess and intercept incoming rockets, artillery and mortars. The system strikes down incoming threats launched from ranges of 4-70 km. The system has the capability to identify and destroy such projectiles before they land in Israeli territory and is considered one of the most effective anti-missile systems in the world. The system is effective in all weather conditions, including low clouds, rain, dust storms and fog. Endit
