ECOWAS condemns Burkina Faso attack that kills 12 soldiers

Xinhua, December 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has condemned in the strongest terms the terror attack on a Burkina Faso military base that killed 12 soldiers in on Friday.

The chairman of ECOWAS commission in a statement on Saturday appealed to the global community for a severe repression of the jihadist attacks.

"The attacks cause indiscriminate deaths and desolation in the sub-region", the statement said.

The 12 soldiers were killed after at least 40 heavily-armed gunmen attacked the military base of Nassoumbou near the border with Mali.

Following the attack, Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore canceled his official visit to Nigeria, where he was expected to attend the 50th summit of heads of state and government of the ECOWAS. Enditem
