Criminal origin behind migrant workers center fire near Paris: Hollande

Xinhua, December 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

A fire caused by arson broke out at a migrant workers shelter in Boulogne-Billancourt, south Paris, killing one person and injuring 12 others, French President Francois Hollande said on Friday.

The French head of state condemned "this intolerable act" and expressed solidarity with the victims, according to a statement issued by his office.

A 40-year-old Malian man died after he jumped out of a window on the third floor of the building to escape the fire. The blaze broke out overnight and burned the lobby of the building and a nearby storage room, according to local reports.

Police were investigating the cause of the fire. But, according to local reports, fuel and other fire accelerants were found at the site, suggesting the blaze was caused intentionally. Endit
