Portuguese police detain man for suspicious relation to child pornography

Xinhua, December 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

Portuguese police have detained a man in the island of Sao Miguel for allegedly practising crimes relating to child pornography.

The man, 25, contacted victims aged between 13 and 16 years of age through social networking site Facebook and promised them money in exchange for photographs of the minors, according to a statement released on Thursday by the judicial police.

He would then threaten to share the images with family and friends to ask for more images, according to the statement.

The investigation into the case was carried out for over a year, with police seizing "a great quantity of computer files and photos and videos relating to minors."

The man detained has already attended a judicial interrogation, however the penalty to be applied against him has not yet been revealed.

Portuguese police investigated at least 242 cases of child pornography in 2015. Endit
