Germany spends over 129 bln euros on public education in 2016

More than 129 billion euros (134.2 billion U.S. dollars) have been budgeted for education in Germany this year, official data showed on Thursday.

According to the figure released by the Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, a total of 129.2 billion euros has been budgeted by the governments of the German federation, states and municipalities in 2016, five billion euros more than in the previous year.

Destatis reported that the budget for education, research and science in 2013 was 257.4 billion euros, equaling 9.1 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).

The budget rose to 265.5 billion euros in 2014, also making up 9.1 percent of Germany's GDP. Endit
