Spain sells 2.18 bln euros of treasury bonds

In the last auction of 2016, the Spanish Treasury on Thursday sold 2.18 billion euros (2.27 billion U.S. dollars) of treasury bonds at lower interest rates.

It registered a demand of more than 3.94 billion euros.

According to the Treasury, a total of 900.3 million euros worth of five-year treasury bonds carried an average interest rate of 0.20 percent.

A further 1.28 billion euros worth of 10-year treasury bonds fetched an average interest rate of 1.4 percent, which was below the 1.54 percent of the previous auction held on Dec. 1.

With this auction, the Spanish treasury met its goal of placing between 1.5 and 2.5 billion euros on the market. Endit
