Xinhua, December 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least 10 oil workers were missing Thursday after a pier operated by Azerbaijani state energy firm SOCAR partially collapsed in the Caspian Sea, said the company.

A pier was damaged in a powerful storm at an oil gathering station on Thursday morning and part of it collapsed, said SOCAR.

Ten oil workers were reported missing. Five of them were on the pier at the time of the disaster while another five were in living quarters.

Rescuers from the Emergency Situations Ministry and the Caspian Shipping Company were at the scene. A search-and-rescue operation for the missing workers was under way.

Azerbaijan is a major energy producer in the oil-rich Caspian region. Endi
