The following are news highlights in Kenyan media outlets on Thursday.

-- Electoral agency to begin an audit of the voter's register this Friday following delay that had raised concern from various political players and religious leaders.

The auditing, which was scheduled from Dec. 2 to 31 before being presented to Parliament by January 14, is aimed at enhancing fair elections. The agency said the delay was occasioned by a requirement in law to have a contract mature 14 days after its signing. Meanwhile, the electoral commission will start voter registration next month. -- Nurses unanimously call off their strike after county governments signed an agreement to recognize their union. The Kenya National Union of Nurses also fully accepted the salary rise they were offered by the government on Sunday. (The Star)

-- Businesses to face a greater risk from political instability than geopolitics next year due to a hotly contested general election, a risk analysis says. The analysis, however, ranks Kenya's political risks as "medium". (Business Daily)

-- The festive season will be more expensive for motorists, businesses and households that use diesel and kerosene following an increase in prices by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
