The Albanian government on Thursday decided to establish the Agency for Energy Efficiency (AEE) which will be the institution responsible for implementing policies and measures promoting energy efficiency in the country.

The agency will fall under the Ministry of Energy and be responsible to prepare and monitor the national action plan for energy efficiency.

With its central office in Tirana, AEE's main duties and responsibilities are to prepare, implement and monitor policies and programs for efficient energy use in the residential services sector, industry, transport and agriculture, official sources said.

It will submit to the minister of energy an annual detailed report on the implementation of the national action plan for energy efficiency.

The agency will also cooperate with central and local authorities, companies operating in industrial facilities and various non-profit organizations for creating and updating necessary energy data.

Another task will be to advise the end consumers for the energy efficiency program as well as support the awareness-raising campaigns and other activities aimed at promoting energy saving and energy efficiency. Endit
