Brazil, Colombia to use local players for January friendly

Xinhua, December 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

A friendly between Brazil and Colombia to raise money for families affected by last week's Chapecoense plane crash is likely to feature only locally based players, Brazilian media reported on Thursday.

The fixture has been tentatively earmarked for January 22 at the Maracana stadium in Rio, according to Globo Esporte.

All gate proceeds will be donated to families of those affected by the disaster.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has not given up hope of convincing European clubs to release their players for the match.

But managers are unlikely to accept the request given the fixture is not on an official FIFA date.

Seventy-one people died when a chartered flight carrying the Chapecoense football side crashed just before its planned destination near Medellin.

The victims included 19 Chapecoense players and all of the Brazilian club's coaching staff. There were six survivors. Endit
